The Edmonton Zoo Nocturnal exhibit space needed serious updating. In our revised design we flipped the location of the viewer to the viewed, putting the viewer in a position as if they had walked through a bamboo forest into a forest glade. In so doing we were able to increase the animal areas by 1.7 times. The design was innovative – the fennec foxes and Kinkajous have a warm and dark habitat and the sloths have a specially made tree with heated branches and a pool at the base. LED lights mimic the stars and the flora is designed to mimic the tropical Kapok trees of the occupants native lands.
